
2011 SPORTSMEN
The
following rules are set to provide for the orderly conduct of racing program. No
implied Warranty of Safety shall result from the publication, or compliance of
these rules. They are to be as a guide and are in NO WAY a guarantee against
injury or death to participants, spectators, or Officials. Any interpretation of
the rules is left up to the Officials, whose decision is Final. Just because it
is not written, does not mean you can do it!!! The Track has the right to modify
the rules at any time for the betterment of racing.
ELIGIBILITY:
American made passenger cars with a wheel base of 108”. No sports cars,
convertibles, or two seat coupes.
INTERIOR:
Must have factory front firewall on driver side only. Floor pan must
be steel under driver. All holes must be patched .
Any wiring or tubing must be sealed with silicone. Must have a full
firewall with no holes or openings between the driver compartment and the fuel
cell area. Can be made of aluminum. Trunk and inner fender wells can be removed.
If the battery is mounted in the driver’s compartment, it must be securely
mounted and covered so that it can’t be dislodge or leak in an accident while
competing. A properly mounted aluminum racing seat with headrest is mandatory.
Must use stock brake pedal in stock location, no pedal extensions. No sharp
objects.
ROLL
CAGE: A properly mounted four
post design roll cage using 1 3/4” by .095 wall (minimum) tubing must be used.
The cage must be securely welded to the frame of the car and include: 3 side
bars on the driver’s side, 2 side bars on the right side, a bar connecting the
front posts immediately above or below the steering column, and rear supports
from the back top of the cage to the rear frame and must be padded in drivers
area. No left side or setback roll cages. The fuel cell must also be protected
by bars.
SAFETY & OTHERS: Must have standard safety equipment: Must have a 5 point safety harness, must be in good condition and be mounted with grade 8 bolts. Harness cannot be more than 5 years old and must have factory tags to prove it! All cars must have window net, and be securely fastened at the bottom and have a quick release latch at the top. Racing approved helmet of a current standards of 95 snell rating or later and a SFI clean (with no holes) approved fire suite. Must have a fully charged fire extinguisher, and be reachable by driver. Gloves are recommended. All cars must have battery disconnect switch and be easy access behind driver’s seat and must be easily accessible by safety crew.
No

ABSOLUTELY
NO TOLERANCE ON ANY SAFETY RULES!
FRAME:
Frame must be of the same make/model as the body style being used. Must be
stock frame from front frame horns to center of rear axle housing. Must use
stock bumpers. If using aftermarket front and rear covers must have proper
bracing. No excessive tubing for bumpers. Must have a drive shaft loop (if not
using a X in the frame)
SUSPENSION:
All suspension components must be stock for frame being used. and in
the stock locations. No racing spindles. May use upper Tubular A-Frames and
aftermarket mounts.( No Heim A Frames ) Lower A-Frames must be stock type for
frame being used. Rear trailing arms must be stock. No altering of sway bars or
mounts... Rear Shocks must be in stock shock mounts. Racing springs are
permitted. (No coil over springs) wedge plates are permitted... May use front
and rear jack bolts. If using front jack bolts the only front shock allowed is
Pro shock WB Series only! May use adjustable spring spacers. May use spring
pockets in rear frame. Must have factory rear differential housing with factory
type carrier. Rear differentials can be interchanged from brand to brand, but
must be stock factory type and stock trailing arms. No rear disc brakes or
proportioning valves. Must have a minimum of 4 inch frame height along length of
frame.
Tires:
Goodyear #2862 or # 2863 track tires on
8” steel wheels. A minimum
durometer reading will be in effect. Durometer TBA. Tires may be checked at any
time during the course of race day. Any tire found with a discrepancy may be
confiscated.
A maximum
of .060 overbore permitted. Maximum cubic inch: 360 cid.
May use
GM CRATE ENGINE PART NUM # 88958602 and will be permitted a 50 lb. weight
allowance and 58% left side. All crate engine competitors must follow all crate
engine repair polices. Polices tech sheet will be available from track.
All
engines must be sealed by the manufacturer or Barberton Speedways certified
engine rebuilder and must remain in the shipped condition. Barberton Speedway
Officials reserve the right to confiscate, or impound any engine at any time.
Competitors refusing confiscation, impounding will be disqualified from event
and all future events until engine issue has been solved. Disqualification
includes forfeiture of all monies, points earned for that event. Teams may be
subjected to additional fines, penalties and or point’s loss, based on
inspection of the engine.
ENGINE
PROTEST: Any owner or driver in this class may protest an engine. They must
be in competition the night of the protest. The cost is $200.00 in cash and must
be done within 5min. after the checkered flag of the feature. If the car behind
protested is found to be legal the owner of the protested car will keep the
protest fee. If the protested car is found to be illegal the fee will be
returned to the protester. The protest will consist of checking the head, intake
and exhaust manifold and cam and cubic inch.
**The
track reserves the right to check any cars engine at any time at owner’s
expense. Any driver who refuses to comply with any check or who subjects to
abusive language will be disqualified.
STARTER:
Starters must be stock type production. No mini or lightweight
starters.
EXHAUST:
Must be stock cast iron, no Corvette center dumps. Exhaust pipes must exit
behind the driver.
WEIGHT:
All weights and measurements are done with driver in the car and
after the feature. 3150 lbs. includes driver. 58% left side max. and 48% rear
max. NO TOLERANCE. Any
car that does not meet the rules may have to add weight.
Top 3 finishers and 1 picked at random must go directly to the tech
building after feature or may result in disqualification.
RADIOS:
A One-way receiving radio Scanner Locked to Frequency (151.955) is MANDATORY and must be operable at all times car is on track. Any car
that does not respond to radio communication for line up on restarts will be
placed at the rear of the pack. Any
communications between pit crew and driver will result in complete
disqualification!
APPEARANCE:
Numbers must be on both doors, roof and must be read
clearly and a min. of 24’ in height and 4” wide. Letter S must be on the
right corner of the windshield. In order to benefit your sponsors, make sure
your car is neatly lettered and painted. All numbers must be registered prior to
your first race night. All cars must run the point fund sponsor decal across
the top of the windshield to be eligible for point fund.
Will be supplied by track.
MAJOR
RULE INFRACTIONS: Any driver or car found illegal after the feature with any
major rule infraction will forfeit all money won that night and all points for
that night and possible points for the season. The second offense will result in
suspension and loss of points and money. Any further infraction will result in
suspension for the remainder of the season. ANY ILLEGAL PARTS MAY BE
CONFISCATED.
NOTE: Any
creative interpretation of these rules should be checked with tech official.
Please ask if not sure what the correct rule is before building your racecar.
These rules are set for the safety and inexpensive participation for all
competitors in the SPORTSMEN DIVISION...Any car may have to add weight, for not
conforming to the rules!
Always remember that the
decisions of the officials are final and are not subject for debate!
